What to Wear to Your Summer Events...Catherine's Style

What to Wear to a Graduation

Over the last four weeks two nephews and two cousins graduated from high school and college. Graduations are a time of celebration and your opportunity to share in your loved ones transition  into the next chapter of their life, so why not plan to look your best. Even though the ceremony may be held outside in a stadium, why not skip the jeans and go for something on trend like a comfy and classic jumpsuit.

On a cooler day or for an indoor ceremony, you can add Catherines Classic Denim Jacket. The two things I absolutely love about this jacket are the stretch and length. The dark wash provides a more upscale look, while the longer length gives you more coverage than most traditional denim jackets. Also the princess seaming in the back of the jacket delivers a more fitted look and the spandex provides a comfortable fit. This jacket didn't get great reviews online, and I'm really not sure why. I found this jacket to be perfect in every way.

What to Wear to a Wedding

Wedding guest attire can be a tricky thing. Much of what you'll wear depends on the theme, time of day, as well as the location. When in doubt, first check the invite for the dress code. If, however, the invitation is silent and the wedding is during the day, you're pretty safe going with a beautiful summer dress.

I think this Floral Vision Twist-Knot Fit & Flare Dress is the ideal choice for a church, outdoor or country club wedding. I'm all about easy breezy, flowing fabrics and simple but elegant styling, and this dress fits the bill.  It's a pull-over dress, amazingly comfortable and has a fun abstract floral pattern that's not over powering. It's also figure flattering with the twist-knot front with a generous fit on the bottom. Also, the flutter sleeves provides just enough room for your arms. The handkerchief hem adds even more style and interest. Pair it with your favorite chunky necklace and heels and you're ready to go.

What to Wear to the Beach

For me, summer equals maxi dresses.  Next to a jumpsuit, a maxi dress is a one-and-done outfit providing maximum style with minimum effort. It's a summer wardrobe essential with a myriad of ways to style it including pairing it with a pair of block heels, pumps, sandals, or even flip flops. If you're heading to the beach you can wear it as a coverup and then straight to a beachside cafe. 

That's what attracted me to this tie-dye inspired Fuchsia Meadow Maxi Dress. While you can style this dress on or off the shoulder, I much prefer to wear this dress off shoulder. I also found the skirt of the dress to be a bit wider than I like, so with a quick tie at the hem, the problem was solved. This dress is fun and playful, and with the vibrant pattern there wasn't a need for a lot of accessories. So I paired it with a set of colorful bracelets and tassel earrings in the same color palette.

What to Wear to a Holiday Celebration

Summer wouldn’t be summer without a few afternoon barbecues and outdoor dinner parties. For these events it's important to wear something relaxing and protective (think sun, bugs, and grass). For me the perfect choice is a great pair of capris and a light airy top. Rock it with a pair of wedges and you'll be fabulously stylish and prepared for whatever the weather has in store.

The Universal Capri Pant by Catherines has truly become my favorite pant. Finding a pant that can accurately fit my hips, butt, thighs and waist perfectly is like trying to find a unicorn. However, the universal capri have a genius construction that actually molds around the shape of my body. The pant is super-soft, wrinkle resistant, and ultra comfortable to wear. You can also wear the universal capri with a blazer and pumps to work or with a tee and sandals for everyday. It's a truly versatile piece.
